Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet may have skipped making their Met Gala debut as a couple because of a long-running celebrity superstition.

According to a report from Page Six, Jenner was reluctant to have Chalamet join her at the 2026 Met Gala due to fears surrounding the so-called “Met Gala curse,” a popular belief that couples who attend the event together often break up soon afterward.

An insider told the outlet that Jenner and Chalamet have “intentionally avoided” attending the Met Gala together throughout their relationship to avoid tempting fate. The source added that Jenner became particularly superstitious after attending the event with former partner Travis Scott in 2018 and 2019; the two later ended their relationship in 2023.

This year, Jenner attended the Met Gala solo in a custom Schiaparelli gown, while Chalamet chose to spend the evening watching the New York Knicks playoff game.

The “curse” has become a recurring pop-culture talking point, with fans pointing to several celebrity couples who appeared together on the Met steps before eventually separating. While there is no evidence beyond coincidence, the superstition remains a favourite topic among celebrity watchers.

Jenner and Chalamet, who have been romantically linked since 2023, have increasingly appeared together at public events, including award shows and recent courtside outings in New York. Despite becoming more visible as a couple, they continue to be selective about which major events they attend together.

Neither Jenner nor Chalamet has publicly commented on the report, but for now, it appears the pair would rather avoid fashion’s biggest superstition than risk putting their relationship to the test.
