Michael Richards, best known for playing Cosmo Kramer in the sitcom Seinfeld, has been photographed publicly for the first time in two years during a rare outing in West Hollywood.
The 76-year-old actor was seen on May 10 during a casual shopping trip at Melrose Place in California. Richards wore a dark jacket, jeans and thick-soled boots, while his trademark hair was brushed back. He also appeared wearing transparent-framed glasses.

Richards has largely stayed away from public life since a racist outburst during a comedy club performance in 2006, an incident that significantly impacted his career and public image.
Speaking during a 2024 appearance on Today, Richards reflected on the controversy and his decision to step away from entertainment.
“I canceled myself out,” he said. “Get away from show business to see what the heck is going on inside me to have been so despicable that night, losing my cool and hurting people.”
Richards added that he discovered deep-rooted anger while examining his behaviour.
“Looking at it very closely, it's something always with us—certainly with me,” he said. “Not as horrible as it was 18 years ago.”
The actor also revealed in previous interviews that he faced a serious health battle after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2018. In an interview with People in 2024, Richards recalled fearing for his life before deciding to undergo surgery.
“I had to go for the full surgery,” he said. “If I hadn't, I probably would have been dead in about eight months.”
Despite remaining distant from Hollywood in recent years, Richards released his memoir, Entrances and Exits, in 2024. Discussing the book with Jay Leno, he explained that writing it allowed him to reconnect with fans while maintaining his private lifestyle.
“The book has been my way of coming out and saying hello,” Richards said.
