Isabelle Huppert, Dali Benssalah, Adam Bessa and global music star Raye are set to star in Lineage, a new crime thriller from director Yann Demange, according to Variety.
The project will be launched at the Cannes Film Festival Market with Veterans handling international sales and CAA Media Finance representing U.S. rights.
The film marks Huppert’s first British production and reunites her with Bessa following their collaboration on Asghar Farhadi’s Parallel Tales. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in London in early August.
Written by Enda Walsh and based on a story by Demange, Lineage is set in contemporary multicultural London. The story follows Tariq, a man trying to rebuild his life after prison while raising his son Amine. His efforts are disrupted when he is drawn back into the criminal underworld through his family connections, forcing him to confront loyalty, violence and legacy.
Director Yann Demange described the film as a personal project, calling it a “homecoming” and a love letter to the London he grew up in. He added that the film explores family ties alongside the conventions of the crime genre.
Producer Thomas Benski called Demange “a singular cinematic voice,” highlighting the film’s combination of emotional depth and commercial appeal. The project is backed by Wayward, Carrousel, BBC Film and multiple production partners.
Raye’s casting marks a significant acting debut for the award-winning artist, adding further international attention to the project ahead of its Cannes Market launch.
