GWADAR:

In what is being hailed as a significant milestone in economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Iran, a high-level, fully authorised delegation from the Chabahar Free Zone Organisation has arrived in Gwadar. The delegation, led by Chairman Muhammad Saeed Arbabi, crossed through the Pakistan-Iran Gabd-Rimzan border.

The delegation included prominent Iranian investors, logistics experts, and key figures associated with international trade. Upon arrival, they were warmly received at the border by the President of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jehand Hut.

Invited by the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce, the Iranian delegation will conduct a detailed tour of the Gwadar Free Zone, the port, and ongoing development projects. The team will assess investment opportunities, port facilities, and logistics infrastructure in Gwadar.

Significant progress is expected during the visit regarding the establishment of a joint logistics network, transit trade, and mutual cooperation between Gwadar and Chabahar.

A spokesperson for the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce described the visit as the beginning of a new chapter in regional trade and industrial cooperation. “This visit will not only further strengthen Pakistan-Iran economic ties but also inject new energy into Gwadar’s economic activities,” the spokesperson said.

The Gwadar Chamber is actively taking steps to attract global investors, and the arrival of this delegation represents a key link in that effort.

During their stay in Gwadar, the delegation will inspect port facilities, industrial zones within the free zone, and ongoing development projects. Subsequently, the delegation will travel to Karachi and Islamabad, where they will hold important meetings with federal and provincial high-level officials as well as business leaders.

According to the Chamber spokesperson, this visit would pave the way for more large-scale delegations from Europe, Central Asia, and Gulf countries in the future. The Iranian delegation’s visit holds particular significance in the strategy to position Gwadar as a regional hub for transportation and trade.

Both Gwadar and Chabahar are strategically important ports at the regional level. Close cooperation between the two could facilitate easier access to Central Asia, Afghanistan, and Iran. Experts believe that if both countries enhance mutual coordination in transit trade, joint logistics, and investment, the region’s economic situation could improve markedly.

Welcoming the delegation, President of Gwadar Chamber Jehand Hut stated: “Gwadar is no longer just a port; it is set to become a major economic hub of the region. Cooperation with our Iranian brothers will play a vital role in this journey.”

The visit came at a time when Pakistan is taking sustained steps to fully operationalise Gwadar, attract investment, and enhance regional connectivity. The presence of the Iranian delegation is being viewed as highly promising in this regard.
