Florence Pugh is set to star in and produce a feature adaptation of Matt Haig’s bestselling novel The Midnight Library, according to Deadline.

The fantasy drama will be directed by Lion filmmaker Garth Davis, with Studiocanal launching the project at the Cannes Market.

Based on Haig’s internationally acclaimed 2020 novel, The Midnight Library follows Nora Seed, a woman who discovers a mysterious library between life and death where she can explore alternate versions of her life. Pugh will play Nora in the upcoming adaptation, which is being described as a “love letter to life.”

The screenplay is written by Olivier Award winner Laura Wade and Tony Award nominee Nick Payne. Blueprint Pictures is producing alongside Studiocanal, with Pugh also serving as a producer on the project.

Director Garth Davis praised the collaboration in a statement shared by Deadline, saying he was excited to reunite with Pugh after previously working together on projects connected to the studio circuit. Davis described the story as a celebration of “life in all its possibility and complexity.”

Matt Haig, who will executive produce the film, also expressed enthusiasm about the adaptation, saying Nora’s story is in “great hands.” Since its release, the novel has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 56 languages.

According to Deadline, production is expected to begin in early 2027 following pre-production later this year. Studiocanal plans a theatrical release across several international territories, including the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
