Euphoria season 3 has sparked controversy after several real-life OnlyFans creators criticised the HBO drama’s portrayal of Sydney Sweeney’s character Cassie Howard entering the world of online adult content creation.

According to Variety, the latest season sees Cassie launch an OnlyFans account as part of a storyline tied to her relationship with Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi. The series depicts Cassie creating provocative themed content while attempting to build an online following with the help of former friend Maddy Perez.

However, some creators working on the platform say the show presents an unrealistic and damaging portrayal of sex work. OnlyFans creator Sydney Leathers criticised scenes involving age-play themes, claiming some of the content shown in the series would violate the platform’s policies.

Adult actress and creator Maitland Ward also voiced concerns, arguing that the storyline reinforces negative stereotypes about sex workers and portrays online creators as willing to do anything for attention or money.

Series creator Sam Levinson defended the creative direction in comments to The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that the storyline was intentionally designed to balance humour with discomfort and expose the darker side of online validation culture.

Despite the criticism, some creators acknowledged that parts of the storyline reflect the importance of social media promotion and influencer culture in building an audience online.

The controversial reaction adds to ongoing debate surrounding Euphoria, which has frequently drawn attention for its graphic storytelling and depiction of addiction, relationships, and internet culture.

Season 3 marks the latest chapter in HBO’s Emmy-winning drama starring Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, and Sydney Sweeney.
