The Devil Wears Prada 2 overtakes original as franchise nears $700M worldwide
The Devil Wears Prada 2 has officially surpassed the global lifetime earnings of the original 2006 film, marking a major milestone for the long-running fashion franchise as it moves closer to a combined $700 million worldwide total.
According to Deadline, the sequel has reached approximately $324 million globally so far, including $101.8 million from its first week in North America and $222.2 million from international markets. With strong overseas performance, the film is expected to push the franchise past the $700 million mark within days.
Directed by David Frankel and reuniting stars Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, the sequel continues to dominate international box offices. Its success is particularly strong in Europe, where Italy leads with $22.2 million, followed by the United Kingdom with $21.6 million. Other key markets include Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Australia, Germany, China, and France, all contributing significantly to the film’s global run.
Industry reports note that Italy’s performance is unusually strong for a Hollywood release, driven in part by the film’s Milan setting and renewed post-pandemic cinema recovery in the region.
In North America, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently locked in a close box office battle with Mortal Kombat II, with both films earning around $40 million to $42 million in their second weekend. The competition is expected to continue through the Mother’s Day frame.
The film’s success has also been supported by an extensive global marketing campaign featuring major brand partnerships, helping boost visibility and audience reach across multiple territories.
