Nawaz to spearhead AJK polls campaign

LAHORE:

PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has decided to actively participate in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) election campaign, with plans to visit the region in mid-June.

According to party sources, the former prime minister is expected to spearhead the PML-N campaign and directed both PM Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz to participate in the election campaign in accordance with legal requirements.

They said PM Shehbaz and CM Maryam are also likely to address two to three public gatherings in the region. During a recent parliamentary board meeting, Nawaz Sharif interviewed over 206 candidates from 45 constituencies, giving each candidate two to three minutes to present their case.

Final decisions regarding party tickets are expected within the next two to three days after consultations with board members. A parliamentary committee headed by party leader Amir Muqam has also been formed to oversee election matters.

During interactions with candidates, concerns were raised about alleged damage to the ideology of Pakistan and the Kashmir freedom movement over the past five years.
