Forever season 2 begins filming as Netflix reveals new cast and story details

Netflix has officially begun production on Season 2 of Forever, the young adult romantic drama created by Mara Brock Akil, with filming now underway in Los Angeles.
The upcoming season will reunite lead stars Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. as Keisha Clark and Justin Edwards, continuing the story several years after the events of the Season 1 finale. According to Netflix’s Tudum platform, the new episodes will explore whether former romantic partners can successfully remain friends as the characters navigate adulthood, careers, relationships, and personal growth.

Season 2 is set during the summer of 2023, with Keisha and Justin reconnecting unexpectedly after years apart. The series will continue examining themes of love, identity, friendship, and transition into adulthood.
Netflix also confirmed several new additions to the cast. Malaika Guttoh joins the series as Ameena, while Avery Wills Jr. and Tre McBride will appear in recurring guest roles as Jaden and Elijah. Returning cast members include Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, and Xosha Roquemore.
Creator and executive producer Mara Brock Akil described the new season as a deeper exploration of friendship and emotional connection during early adulthood. She stated that the story will focus on the uncertainty and emotional intensity that comes with growing up and making life-changing decisions for the first time.
The second season will also feature Grammy-winning producer Khris Riddick-Tynes as executive music producer, with Kier Lehman returning as music supervisor.
Forever became one of Netflix’s notable romance dramas following its debut, earning attention for its coming-of-age storytelling and focus on modern relationships. A release date for Season 2 has not yet been announced.
