Brendan Fraser is officially preparing to return as adventurer Rick O’Connell in The Mummy 4, revealing that he’s already working to get back into action-hero shape nearly two decades after the franchise’s last installment.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Oscar-winning actor joked that getting ready for the physically demanding sequel at age 57 has been no easy task.

“Well, we’re gonna get the band back together,” Fraser said while discussing the highly anticipated sequel, confirming that the new movie aims to recapture the spirit of the original films. He added that the team plans to revisit familiar filming locations and give longtime fans “what they have been bothering all of us for” over the last 20 years.

Fraser also laughed about the intense preparation process, telling Fallon, “Please wish me luck. I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”

Universal officially confirmed earlier this year that Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reunite for the next Mummy movie, with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett attached to helm the project. The sequel is currently scheduled for release on Oct. 15, 2027, after previously being dated for 2028.

The film marks a major return for the beloved adventure franchise after years of stalled sequel plans and the failed 2017 Tom Cruise-led reboot. Fraser previously suggested that reboot struggled because it lacked the fun, swashbuckling tone that made the original trilogy resonate with audiences.

Fans have reacted enthusiastically online since Fraser confirmed his return, with many calling the reunion of the original cast a long-awaited restoration of one of the defining blockbuster franchises of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
