Amazon MGM Studios is developing a television adaptation of Liz Tomforde’s bestselling Windy City book series, with writer and producer Alison McDonald attached to the project.
The adaptation will be produced by Premeditated Productions under its first-look deal with the studio. McDonald is set to write and executive produce the series, while Premeditated Productions executives Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will also serve as executive producers.
Julie Jarmon will join as co-executive producer, with Tomforde herself also attached to the project as an executive producer.
The Windy City series began with the release of Mile High in 2022 and has since grown into a five-book interconnected sports romance franchise. The novels follow a group of professional athletes navigating relationships and personal challenges alongside the women who enter their lives.
The series has reportedly sold millions of copies worldwide, generated more than one billion Kindle page reads and expanded into 30 countries with translations available in 21 languages.
Tomforde, a New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author, recently expanded the franchise with the release of In Her Own League, a spin-off centred on major league baseball’s first female team owner. She has also announced a new four-book series titled Wilder Woods.
Speaking about the adaptation, Tomforde said, “I started writing Mile High while working as a flight attendant for a professional hockey team. What started as a personal passion project has turned into a career that I truly never thought was possible.”
She added, “And now, thanks to Premeditated Productions and Amazon Studios, it’s becoming something bigger than I ever dreamed. Soon readers who fell in love with my characters will get to watch their stories step off the page and unfold on screen.”
McDonald is known for her work on series including Russian Doll, Your Honor, Nurse Jackie and American Dad. She also co-created the Netflix animated children’s series Karma’s World and received a Humanitas Prize for her work.
