Clashes between law-enforcement personnel and terrorists in Bajaur and cross-border shelling from Afghanistan in Bajaur and South Waziristan's border region of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have left several civilians dead and injured, police and witnesses said.
The clashes between security personnel and terrorists erupted in Malakana Dama Dola area of Bajaur's Mamund tehsil. The firing from the terrorists resulted in the deaths of two children, identified as Abu Huraira and Owais, both sons of Ibrahim.
Four others, including Kulsoom, Junaid and Hilal, sustained injuries and were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar. Deputy Superintendent of Police Niaz Muhammad confirmed the incident, while authorities maintained that the area remained tense after the exchange of fire.
In a separate incident in Lower South Waziristan's Angoor Adda area, mortar and artillery shells fired from across the border landed in Angoor Adda Bazaar, hitting a bakery shop. As a result, the shopkeeper, identified as Aziz Rehman Wazir, died on the spot.
Two of his brothers were injured and shifted to Wana hospital where one critical patient was later reported stable.
The incident triggered panic, shop closures and strong condemnation from activists and tribal elders over repeated shelling incidents in recent weeks.
