'Sindh - a graveyard for women'
Sindhiyani Tehreek on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Sindh government, accusing it of tacitly allowing honour killings and violence against women to flourish across the province.
In a statement issued in Hyderabad, the party's central president Umrah Samon alleged that the ruling government had "intentionally turned Sindh into a slaughterhouse for women". She claimed that influential feudal figures affiliated with the ruling party had transformed honour killings into a "business", while police were facilitating those involved in such crimes instead of protecting victims.
Samon also raised alarm over what she described as a growing trend of kidnappings of minor girls and women in several districts, including Hyderabad, Umerkot, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur, alleging that police had failed to recover many of the victims. She described the situation as evidence of the "collective criminal failure and negligence" of state institutions, including the provincial government, police, judiciary and administration.
