Lizzy Caplan has officially joined the cast of The Morning Show season 5, expanding the ensemble of Apple TV+’s hit newsroom drama, according to an exclusive report from Deadline.
Caplan will play Gwen, described as a passionate and uncompromising Broadway theatre director. Her addition marks another high-profile casting for the upcoming season, which continues to grow its recurring roster with names including Jeff Daniels, Reneé Rapp, Jesse Williams, and Sean Hayes.
The storyline for season 5 is being kept tightly under wraps. However, the series continues to focus on the high-pressure world of morning television journalism and the personal and professional lives of the people behind it.
The Morning Show stars Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, who also serve as executive producers. The ensemble cast includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, and Jon Hamm.
The series previously explored major shifts in the media landscape, including the aftermath of the UBA-NBN merger and the evolving challenges of truth and accountability in modern journalism.
Season 4 took place nearly two years after the events of season 3 and further developed themes of corporate power, media ethics, and personal ambition within a divided cultural climate.
Caplan joins the series following a strong run of acclaimed television roles. She most recently starred in Netflix’s Zero Day and FX’s Fleishman Is in Trouble, earning Emmy recognition for her performance. Her past credits also include Masters of Sex, Fatal Attraction, Castle Rock, and Party Down.
The Morning Show is produced by Media Res and Apple Studios, with Charlotte Stoudt serving as showrunner and Mimi Leder directing and executive producing. The series remains one of Apple TV+’s flagship drama titles as it heads into its fifth season.
