Nintendo announces new Star Fox game for Switch 2 releasing June 25
Nintendo has announced a new Star Fox game for the Switch 2 during a surprise Direct presentation, marking the return of the franchise after a decade.
The game, titled Star Fox, is scheduled for release on June 25. Nintendo described it as being based on Star Fox 64, with redesigned characters and updated visuals, presenting what appears to be a modern reinterpretation of the original space shooter.
According to details shared during the presentation, the game retains core elements of the original series, including space combat and character dialogue within the cockpit.
Early footage also shows a variety of vehicles beyond spacecraft, including a submarine, expanding gameplay options.
The updated version introduces several new features, including an online four-on-four dogfighting multiplayer mode.
Nintendo also confirmed support for mouse controls, offering an alternative way to play. In addition, players will be able to use a new type of interactive avatar in online play, which the company described as reflecting “your expressions and movements in GameChat.”
For players seeking a more traditional experience, Nintendo confirmed that the game will support the N64 controller, maintaining a link to the original hardware style.
The game will be priced at $49.99 for the digital edition and $59.99 for the physical version.
The announcement comes during a period where Nintendo’s first-party release schedule for the Switch 2 in 2026 remains limited.
Alongside Star Fox, upcoming titles include Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Rhythm Heaven Groove, Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.
