James Marsden is set to lead the upcoming thriller series Disavowed for Apple TV, marking another major television role for the actor as streaming platforms continue to invest in high-concept espionage dramas.

According to a report by Variety, the series centres on Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA case officer whose career unravels after he is abruptly fired during a global manhunt for a deadly assassin responsible for killing his colleague. Stripped of his position and reputation, Griffin is forced to operate outside official channels as he pursues a $15 million federal bounty tied to the killer.

The project comes from writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, best known for their work on Iron Man, the 2008 blockbuster that helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both will serve as executive producers alongside Tom Spezialy and Marsden himself. The series is produced by Apple Studios and Blue Marble Pictures, with Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity also executive producing.

Disavowed further strengthens Marsden’s relationship with Apple TV, following his recent role in the second season of Your Friends & Neighbors. He has also earned critical acclaim for performances in series such as Jury Duty and Paradise, both of which brought him Emmy nominations.

With its mix of espionage, personal downfall, and high-stakes action, Disavowed aims to tap into the growing demand for character-driven thrillers in the streaming era. A release date has not yet been announced.
