Scarlett Johansson to star in Ari Aster’s new A24 film 'Scapegoat'
Scarlett Johansson is set to star in Scapegoat, the latest project from acclaimed filmmaker Ari Aster, marking another high-profile collaboration with indie studio A24.
The upcoming film will be written and directed by Aster, known for his distinct storytelling style in films such as Hereditary and Midsommar. As with many of Aster’s projects, plot details for Scapegoat remain under wraps, continuing his tradition of secrecy around narrative elements.
The project will be produced by Lars Knudsen under the Square Peg banner, further cementing Aster’s ongoing creative partnerships within the independent film space. The film represents Johansson’s continued shift toward auteur-driven cinema following her recent blockbuster appearances.
Johansson has been expanding her portfolio with a mix of studio and independent projects. She recently wrapped production on a new installment in The Exorcist directed by Mike Flanagan, and is also set to appear alongside Adam Driver in Paper Tiger, directed by James Gray.
Meanwhile, Aster’s recent film Eddington featured a star-studded cast and explored themes of political division and misinformation during the COVID-19 era. Despite mixed reviews, Aster remains a prominent voice in contemporary cinema.
With Scapegoat, Johansson and Aster are expected to deliver another distinctive project, blending star power with auteur filmmaking under the A24 banner.
