Elle, the upcoming prequel series to the 2001 film Legally Blonde, has released its first teaser trailer, offering audiences a glimpse into the teenage years of Elle Woods before she became a Harvard Law student. The series is set to stream on Prime Video, with its first season scheduled to premiere on July 1.

The show explores Elle Woods’ high school life, focusing on the experiences that helped shape her personality, ambition and confidence. According to the official description, the story follows her formative years as she navigates adolescence, friendships and family dynamics, long before the events of the original film starring Reese Witherspoon.

The role of young Elle Woods is played by Lexi Minetree, who takes on her first leading television role. The cast also includes June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother and Tom Everett Scott as her father, with several recurring and guest appearances throughout the season. The series is created by Laura Kittrell, who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. Executive production includes Witherspoon, who remains closely involved with the expansion of the Legally Blonde universe through her media company.

Filming for the series began in April 2025, and production has continued through the development of both the first and second seasons. In a notable early move, the series was renewed for a second season before the premiere of season one, reflecting strong confidence from the streaming platform in the project’s performance potential.

The creative team has emphasised that the series aims to expand on the character’s backstory rather than simply replicate the tone of the original film. While the film focused on Elle’s journey into elite legal education, the series shifts attention to the experiences that shaped her identity earlier in life.

The teaser highlights a lighter tone consistent with the franchise’s established style, blending coming of age themes with comedic elements. It also signals a broader attempt by studios to revisit established film properties through prequel storytelling, particularly those with strong cultural recognition.

Production on season two is expected to begin shortly after the first season’s release window, indicating a long term plan for the series rather than a standalone limited run. With anticipation building ahead of its debut, the show is positioned as one of Prime Video’s key scripted releases of the year, expanding the Legally Blonde universe for a new generation of viewers.
