HBO’s hit anthology series The White Lotus is heading to the French Riviera for its most ambitious season yet, with Season 4 set against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival and a reported $120 million production budget.

Created by Mike White, the new season follows rival film teams attending Cannes while staying at luxury hotels across the Croisette and surrounding hills. The story is expected to satirise Hollywood fame, industry politics, and the power dynamics behind global celebrity culture.

Production spans locations across the French Riviera and Paris, including rebranded luxury hotels used as fictional White Lotus properties. The scale marks the series’ largest shoot to date, with filming planned over several months.

The season also saw a major casting change after Helena Bonham Carter exited the project due to creative differences. She has since been replaced by Laura Dern, who joins an ensemble cast including Steve Coogan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Rosie Perez.

Unlike previous seasons set in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand, Season 4 directly embeds its narrative within the Cannes Film Festival itself. Producers have described the setting as central to exploring themes of fame, artistic ambition, and social hierarchy.

While the production remains tightly controlled, it has already generated attention across the French Riviera, with local casting calls drawing strong interest from extras and industry newcomers.

The White Lotus season 4 is expected to continue its tradition of blending dark comedy with social satire when it premieres on HBO and streaming platforms following production wrap.
