Antony Starr may be the face of The Boys, but the actor admits there’s one co-star whose storylines leave him a little jealous.
According to Chace Crawford, who plays The Deep, Starr often envies the wild and absurd material his character gets every season.
“Even Antony, every year, is like, ‘Dude, you have some of the best s— all the time! Every year, you’ve got some really good stuff, man,’” Crawford said in an interview with ScreenRant.
Crawford said that trend continues in season five, where The Deep once again gets some of the show’s strangest and funniest material, from driving a Cybertruck to co-hosting the in-universe podcast Manhandled alongside Black Noir.
“I walked onto that set, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing,’” Crawford said. “The periscope and the posters on the wall were ridiculous. And the fact that he’s driving a cyber truck? They surprise me every time.”
While Starr’s Homelander remains the show’s central menace, Crawford suggested The Deep’s chaotic comic detours have become one of the most entertaining parts of the final season.
With only a few episodes left, season five appears to be giving both characters plenty to do, but if Starr had his pick, he might gladly swap Homelander’s heavy burden for some of The Deep’s ridiculous fun.
