HYDERABAD:

Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT) chief Ayaz Latif Palijo has warned that his party will launch a province-wide protest movement if the government fails to provide relief to the public from rising inflation.

In a statement issued on Sunday, he expressed grave concern over the sharp surge in prices, saying that inflation reaching 11 per cent in April was not merely a statistical figure but a reflection of the hardships faced by people.

He said the burden of flawed economic policies and global factors was being shifted onto the poor, which was unacceptable. He added that landless farmers across Sindh and other parts of the country were among the worst affected segments.

Palijo said these farmers were facing a severe economic crisis due to acute water shortages, rising input costs, including fertilisers, seeds, medicines and transportation, as well as declining crop prices.

He added that daily wage labourers, who rely on earnings to sustain their households, were also struggling as their incomes had failed to keep pace with inflation, eroding their purchasing power.
