Emma Stone 'Bugonia' enters Netflix top 10 as film gains streaming traction

Emma Stone’s 'Bugonia' reaches Netflix top 10, marking continued success for her collaboration with Yorgos Lanthimos

Emma Stone’s R-rated sci-fi film Bugonia has entered Netflix’s top 10 streaming chart, reaching number four and gaining renewed attention among viewers.

The film marks another collaboration between Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos, following previous projects including The Favourite, Kinds of Kindness, and Poor Things.

Bugonia features a cast that includes Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, and Alicia Silverstone. The story follows a beekeeper, played by Plemons, who becomes convinced that a pharmaceutical chief executive, portrayed by Stone, is an alien planning to destroy Earth. The film is adapted from Jang Joon-hwan’s 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!.

The production received positive responses from critics, achieving an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews referenced its tone and performances, with some describing it as an “honest, provocative, and visionary piece” and noting its balance of humour and social themes.

Stone’s performance in Bugonia has also been recognised during the awards season. Her role contributed to a Best Actress nomination at the 2026 Academy Awards, marking her seventh nomination overall.

This places her among the youngest performers to reach that milestone, following Walt Disney, who achieved the same number of nominations at a younger age, and ahead of Meryl Streep, who previously held the record for women.

In addition to her acting work, Stone is continuing to develop projects as a producer. She is also set to star in an upcoming romantic comedy titled The Catch alongside Chris Pine, scheduled for release May 21 2027.

Bugonia is currently available to stream on Netflix.
