Authorities warn against illegal hunting as spring begins

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Climate Change, Forests, Environment, and Wildlife has issued a comprehensive public awareness message to protect the 'Tut Khoraka' a strikingly beautiful bird known for its enchanting voice.

The bird, which experts describe as both a vibrant metaphor for nature's colours and a crucial component of the ecosystem, emerges in Pakistan's lush green regions particularly during spring. It feeds on wild fruits, especially mulberries and berries.

According to officials, the bird's melodious chirping spreads a soul-refreshing melody across the morning skies, enhancing the beauty of nature.

In its message, the department made it clear that this bird cannot tolerate any form of hunting or harm. Unfortunately, certain individuals use slingshots and guns to hunt these innocent birds, an act that is not only illegal but also severely disrupts the natural environmental balance.

Experts emphasise that these birds play a vital role in seed propagation and the natural expansion of forests, meaning their protection is directly tied to human survival.
