Zendaya will not attend the 2026 Met Gala, stepping away from fashion’s biggest night as she navigates one of the busiest periods of her career, according to reports.

The actor, who has become a regular fixture at the annual event since her debut in 2015, is said to be taking time away from high profile appearances following a demanding schedule of film and television commitments. Her decision comes after a continuous stretch of press tours and premieres linked to several major projects released or scheduled within the same year.

Zendaya recently starred in The Drama, which premiered earlier this month, and also returned for the latest season of Euphoria, which continues to draw significant global attention. Both projects required extensive promotional work across multiple markets.

Looking ahead, her 2026 slate remains particularly packed. She is set to appear in The Odyssey, scheduled for release on July 17, followed closely by Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31. Later in the year, she is also expected to feature in the next instalment of the Dune franchise, continuing her role in one of the most high profile ensembles in contemporary cinema.

Sources close to the situation indicate that her absence from the Met Gala is linked to a desire to step back briefly from constant public appearances rather than any specific professional conflict. The event, organised annually by the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, has long been a key moment in the global fashion calendar, attracting major figures from film, music and sport.

Zendaya has attended the Met Gala seven times and previously served as a co chair, becoming known for her theatrical and widely discussed red carpet looks. Her presence at the event has often generated significant media attention, particularly due to her collaborations with stylist Law Roach.

Her decision also means she will not appear alongside co star Tom Holland, whose own attendance at the gala has never materialised despite ongoing public interest in their relationship and joint film projects.

This year’s Met Gala will proceed with co chairs including Anna Wintour, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams, with the theme “Costume Art” focusing on the intersection between fashion and fine art.

While fans expressed disappointment online following the news, many also voiced support, noting the scale of Zendaya’s workload across film and promotional commitments. Social media reactions highlighted both her influence in fashion culture and the intensity of her current career phase.

As the entertainment calendar continues to build toward a crowded summer and awards season, Zendaya’s absence underscores the increasing demands placed on actors balancing blockbuster franchises with global publicity cycles.
