5% hike in goods transport fares

The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a five per cent increase in freight fares in response to rising petroleum prices, intensifying concerns over inflation and supply chain costs.

Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan strongly criticised the recent hike in fuel prices, stating that transporters across the country condemn the move. He said the increase in operating costs has left the sector with no choice but to pass on the burden through higher fares.

Awan urged the federal government to provide immediate relief by abolishing toll taxes, withholding taxes, and fines imposed by motorway and traffic police. He argued that flawed government policies have already forced thousands of transporters to halt operations, as sustaining the business becomes increasingly difficult.

He further noted that the Rs80,000 subsidy provided per truck trailer is insufficient.
