ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has delisted two political parties, including one founded by former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, over repeated violations of electoral laws, shrinking the total number of registered parties in the country to 167.

In a set of notifications, the ECP removed the Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) from its list of registered political parties.

The decision followed earlier orders issued on April 16 and was taken on the recommendation of the commission's political finance wing.
