Donald Trump has renewed calls for Jimmy Kimmel to be dismissed from ABC following backlash over a joke involving Melania Trump, according to a report by Variety.
The controversy stems from a recent monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in which Kimmel referred to Melania Trump as an “expectant widow” during a satirical segment linked to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The remark drew criticism from supporters of Trump, particularly in light of heightened tensions following a reported security incident near the event.
In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump questioned when ABC would take action against Kimmel, stating that “people are angry” and urging the network to act “soon.” The comments escalated an ongoing public dispute between the two figures.

Melania Trump also criticised the comedian in a statement, describing the joke as harmful and arguing that such remarks contribute to division. She called on ABC to reconsider providing a platform for content she characterised as inappropriate.
Kimmel responded during a subsequent broadcast, defending the joke as satire and rejecting suggestions that it encouraged violence. He maintained that the remark was intended as a light roast and reiterated his long-standing stance against gun violence.
The incident has reignited debate around the boundaries of political comedy, free speech and media responsibility. Critics of potential regulatory or corporate action argue that comedic expression should remain protected, while others have called for greater accountability from broadcasters.
As of now, neither ABC nor its parent company The Walt Disney Company has announced any action regarding Kimmel’s role.
