A new promo for Saturday Night Live sees Olivia Rodrigo stepping into the high-fashion world of The Devil Wears Prada, with a comedic twist.
The sketch recreates the iconic monologue originally delivered by Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly to Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs. This time, cast member James Austin Johnson takes on the Miranda role, swapping the famous cerulean sweater speech for a tongue-in-cheek lecture about Rodrigo mistakenly calling SNL “skits” instead of “sketches.”
Olivia Rodrigo’s SNL promo references iconic scene from ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’
She will be hosting and performing this weekend. pic.twitter.com/RXXuYDH5yzRodrigo, making her first appearance as host and third as musical guest, plays the straight woman in the bit, holding her own opposite Johnson’s sharp impression.
The promo also cheekily ties her career back to earlier SNL moments, referencing her breakout on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and the cultural impact of her hit drivers license.
Her return comes with plenty of buzz. Rodrigo is set to release her upcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love on June 12, and is expected to perform her single “Drop Dead” along with a new track during the episode.
