A24 UK is developing a television adaptation of Boyfriend Material, the popular romance novel by author Alexis Hall, according to a report by Deadline.

The project marks another BookTok-driven adaptation for the studio as it continues expanding its scripted television slate.

The novel, published in 2022, follows Luc, a chaotic young man trying to stabilise his life, whose world is turned upside down when he meets Oliver, a disciplined and emotionally reserved criminal barrister. What begins as an unlikely pairing evolves into a heartfelt enemies-to-lovers romance, blending humour with emotional depth.

The book became a breakout success on BookTok, the TikTok community known for driving viral interest in fiction titles and influencing major adaptation deals. It is the first in a trilogy, followed by Husband Material and an upcoming third instalment, further expanding the story universe.

A24 UK, led by Piers Wenger and Rose Garnett, has been actively securing high-profile literary adaptations in recent months. The studio has also optioned multiple novels and projects as part of its growing television strategy, positioning itself strongly in the premium scripted space.

Hall, known for writing romance, science fiction and urban fantasy, has previously seen his work adapted or optioned across different platforms, reflecting increasing demand for genre-blending storytelling in television.

While casting and production timelines have not yet been announced, the adaptation is expected to remain closely aligned with the tone of the source material, focusing on character-driven storytelling and modern romantic dynamics.
