City to stay hot, no heatwave expected
Daytime temperatures in the metropolis will remain high for next few days, but no heatwave conditions are expected in the city. However, heatwave has begun affecting central and upper districts of Sindh and is expected to persist until May 3, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said.
The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for several districts, including Jamshoro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Sanghar, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Sukkur. During the period from April 28 to May 3, daytime temperatures in these areas are likely to remain 4 to 6°C above normal.
Residentsespecially women, children, and the elderlyare advised to take precautions, avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours, and increase water intake.
The department further stated that Karachi may experience hot conditions through Thursday, with temperatures possibly exceeding 36°C. Due to humidity levels rising up to 60%, the heat may feel more intense than the actual temperature. However, no heatwave is currently forecast for the city.
On Tuesday, Karachi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7°C with 58% humidity. In interior Sindh, the highest temperature was recorded in Mohenjo-daro at 44°C. Other cities reported high temperatures. Larkana (42.5°C), Jacobabad, Dadu, and Hyderabad (42°C), Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Paddidan, Rohri, and Hyderabad Airport (41°C), while Chhor, Mithi, and Sakrand also recorded temperatures above 40°C.
