Luke Hemsworth has spoken about the difficulties he faces working in the entertainment industry while carrying one of Hollywood’s most recognisable surnames. The actor, known for his roles in Westworld and the action thriller Land of Bad, reflected on how being the older brother of Chris Hemsworth and Liam Hemsworth can shape expectations before he even enters an audition room.
In recent remarks to The Guardian, Hemsworth addressed the assumption that his family name automatically opens doors. He explained that the reality has often been more complicated, with casting teams sometimes bringing preconceived ideas about his career path and capabilities. Rather than easing his professional journey, he said the surname can occasionally create a barrier that requires him to work harder to establish his own identity.
Hemsworth said he has learned to be highly conscious of his preparation and approach to roles. He described a consistent need to demonstrate his commitment to craft in order to move beyond assumptions linked to his family connections. While he acknowledged that he enjoys character-driven work, he also noted that external perceptions can sometimes overshadow his individual achievements.
He also reflected on lighter but persistent confusion surrounding his identity. Hemsworth shared that he is occasionally mistaken for his brothers in professional settings. In one instance, he recalled being introduced incorrectly at a film premiere, highlighting how frequently the mix-ups occur. He added that these moments underline how closely the public associates his career with those of Chris and Liam Hemsworth.
Despite the challenges, Hemsworth expressed appreciation for the range of roles he has been able to take on over the years. He pointed to his work in Westworld and his collaboration with Russell Crowe in Beast as examples of projects that have allowed him to explore different types of characters. He also noted that working in Australian and international productions has given him varied opportunities beyond the shadow of his family name.
Hemsworth has previously appeared alongside his brothers in limited capacities, including small appearances in the Thor franchise and the 2024 film Land of Bad with Liam Hemsworth. He has also expressed interest in uniting with Chris and Liam for a full project, although he acknowledged that scheduling would be a significant challenge given their global commitments.
For now, Hemsworth continues to build his own path in the industry, balancing recognition of his family ties with a determination to be defined by his individual work rather than comparison.
