Mahandri Bridge faces renewed threat
.

The key Mahandri bridge in Kaghan Valley, a vital commercial and tourist hub, is once again under threat, triggering serious concern among local traders and those linked to the tourism sector.
Rapid accumulation of silt and debris in the stream beneath the bridge is causing water levels to rise, raising fears that further rainfall could endanger the structure.
Local sources and social circles blame the irrigation department's poor planning and failure to take timely preventive measures for the worsening situation, stating that authorities have failed to learn from past experiences.
The bridge had suffered severe damage during previous flood surges, causing financial losses worth millions of rupees to traders and farmers. Its closure had effectively paralysed tourism in Kaghan Valley, impacting the livelihoods of thousands of families.
More than just a crossing, the Mahandri bridge serves as a lifeline for tourist traffic in the valley. If the stream is not cleared immediately, debris carried by rising water during rains could damage the bridge, potentially halting the influx of tourists during the peak season.
Local residents and tourism operators have urged higher authorities and the district administration to immediately direct the irrigation department to clear the stream and remove debris.
They warned that any delay in emergency measures could result in significant loss of life and property, for which the concerned departments would be held responsible.
