Dylan Carter, who appeared on Season 24 of The Voice, has died at the age of 24 following a car accident in South Carolina on Saturday night. His death was confirmed through community statements and tributes shared shortly after news of the crash emerged.
Carter became known nationally after his appearance on the singing competition, where he impressed all four judges during his blind audition. Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, John Legend and Gwen Stefani all turned their chairs after his performance of Whitney Houston’s "I Look to You". The song held personal meaning for Carter, as it was dedicated to his mother, who had passed away a year earlier.
He ultimately joined McEntire’s team and progressed through the early stages of the competition. His journey on the show ended in Episode 12, where he performed Cody Johnson’s "Til You Can’t" before being eliminated. Despite his exit, his performances continued to gain attention online for their emotional delivery and vocal strength.
Outside of television, Carter was also deeply involved in community work. He co-founded a non-profit organisation called The Local Voice, which focused on supporting women affected by breast cancer. The organisation also held fundraising events and community performances, where Carter often used his music to raise awareness and bring people together.
Following his death, tributes were issued by local officials and members of the community in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr described Carter as a gifted singer who frequently performed at town events and was widely respected for his kindness and personality. He added that Carter was regarded not only as an entertainer but also as a friend to the community.
The Local Voice also released a statement remembering Carter as the heart of their mission. They highlighted his belief that every voice mattered and credited him with bringing people together through both music and charity work. The organisation noted that he was also involved in local business and real estate, and often worked to support community initiatives beyond music.
Carter’s passing has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and those who followed his journey on The Voice. His performances, charitable work and community presence have been widely shared in tributes that continue to circulate online as people reflect on his life and career.
