Pedro Pascal gets emotional at 'Mandalorian and Grogu' event ahead of film release

Pedro Pascal became visibly emotional during a promotional event for the upcoming Star Wars film The Mandalorian and Grogu at CCXP Mexico in Mexico City.
The actor appeared alongside director Jon Favreau as unannounced guests ahead of the film’s scheduled release on May 22.
Pascal, who first portrayed the character Din Djarin in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, spoke about the significance of bringing the story to cinemas. Wearing a Mexico men’s World Cup 2026 jersey, he reflected on his early connection to the franchise and the importance of the big screen experience.
“As soon as I saw this, I knew that it would be a new authorship of a streaming experience,” he said. “But I always had a dream in my heart that it would be on a big screen because that’s how I was developed as a child. I went to the movie theater so much with my family, and I saw the Star Wars movies on the big screen.”

After addressing the audience in Spanish, Pascal paused as he became emotional, prompting a strong reaction from attendees who began cheering his name. He later continued speaking in Spanish and blew a kiss to the crowd.
The film marks the first theatrical Star Wars release since 2019 and also features Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White. Jon Favreau explained that the project aims to expand the series while remaining accessible to new audiences.
“We wanted to introduce these characters to a new audience,” Favreau said. “But for the fans who have been there forever, like [this crowd], we wanted to evolve the relationship. It’s not no longer about the Mandalorian rescuing Grogu. Now Grogu has leveled up. He’s a Mandalorian apprentice. He’s studying under Luke Skywalker. He’s coming into his own, and now he’s discovering and unleashing his abilities.”
