Suzanne Collins is offering fresh insight into The Hunger Games universe as part of a new collector’s edition release, including her recommended reading order for the beloved dystopian saga.

In an exclusive interview featured in the upcoming collector’s edition, Collins advised readers, especially newcomers, to follow the books in the order they were originally published.

That means starting with the original trilogy The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay, followed by the prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and then the latest installment, Sunrise on the Reaping.

Collins explained that this sequence best reflects the thematic evolution of the series, particularly its exploration of power, war, and authoritarianism. She noted that the story builds as a “thematic conversation,” making the publication order more impactful for readers experiencing the narrative arc for the first time.

The collector’s edition itself is designed as a premium release for fans, featuring elements such as a foil-stamped slipcase, ribbon bookmark, illustrated details, and even a District 12 family tree to help readers track key characters. It also includes the new Q&A between Collins and Scholastic publisher David Levithan, offering deeper insight into the world of Panem.

The release comes amid renewed interest in the franchise, with additional editions and adaptations planned, including new print releases and a film adaptation of Sunrise on the Reaping.

With the expanded series now spanning five books, Collins’ guidance provides a clearer roadmap for both longtime fans and new readers looking to dive into one of the most influential young adult franchises of the past two decades.
