Final Fantasy XIV is set to introduce a major crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion, with Square Enix confirming the collaboration during its 2026 Fan Festival event in Anaheim.

Producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed that the anime-inspired content will be included as part of the upcoming Evercold expansion.

Unlike previous limited-time collaborations, this project will take the form of a full 24-player Alliance Raid series titled Ghosts of Desire.

A teaser trailer shown at the event featured the Evangelion unit Eva-01 alongside music from the anime, offering an early look at the crossover’s tone and direction.

The raid series is expected to follow the structure typical of Final Fantasy XIV’s large-scale content, with multiple parts released across the expansion’s patch cycle.

The Evercold expansion is scheduled to launch in January 2027 and will begin a new storyline titled The Godless Realms Saga.

The setting takes place in a parallel world referred to as “the Fourth,” continuing the game’s approach of expanding its narrative through alternate reflections.

Square Enix confirmed that the Evangelion collaboration is being developed with creative input from Khara, Inc., the studio associated with the anime franchise.

While further details about gameplay and story integration remain limited, the scale of the project marks one of the most extensive crossover efforts in the game to date.

Final Fantasy XIV has a history of collaborations, including partnerships with NieR: Automata, Monster Hunter, Fall Guys, and other franchises.

Additional Fan Festival events are scheduled to take place in Berlin and Tokyo later in 2026, with further updates on Evercold and its content roadmap expected to be shared.

Final Fantasy XIV is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Windows, and macOS platforms, with a subscription model and free trial access up to the Stormblood expansion.
