Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on July 9, bringing a remake of Ubisoft’s 2013 title with updated gameplay systems and expanded content.

The new version retains the original single-player story while introducing technical improvements and additional features designed for modern hardware.

The remake centres on Edward Kenway, whose story remains unchanged, alongside returning characters including Blackbeard, Anne Bonny and Charles Vane.

The Caribbean setting also returns, featuring locations such as Nassau, Kingston and Havana, along with naval gameplay aboard Kenway’s ship, the Jackdaw.

Ubisoft has rebuilt the game using the latest version of the Anvil engine, delivering enhanced character detail, improved animations and denser environments across land and sea.

Developers said the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro versions will include upgraded lighting and ray tracing features.

Technical director Jussi Markkanen stated, “We were extremely impressed with the enhanced PSSR. It really redefines the graphics experience in console games.”

Gameplay systems have also been revised. Parkour movement has been expanded with additional traversal options, while combat has been reworked to include faster attacks, improved parry mechanics and chained takedowns.

Stealth mechanics now allow players to crouch freely, and mission failures in tailing or eavesdropping sequences no longer result in immediate desynchronisation.

New content has been added to both the main narrative and modern-day sequences, including additional scenes written by original lead writer Darby McDevitt.

New officers such as Lucy Baldwin, The Padre and Deadman Smith will feature unique abilities and storylines.

Naval gameplay has been expanded with alternate weapon upgrades, dynamic weather systems and new recruitable crew companions, including animals.

Ubisoft confirmed further updates will be shared ahead of the game’s release.
