The planned sequel series to the культ classic film Clueless is no longer moving forward at Peacock, marking a setback for the highly anticipated revival.
According to Variety, the project, which would have seen Alicia Silverstone reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz, has been officially scrapped by the streaming platform.
The series was first announced in 2025 as a direct follow-up to the beloved 1995 film Clueless, which helped launch Silverstone’s career and became a defining teen comedy of its era.
While Peacock has decided not to proceed, the project may not be entirely dead. Reports indicate that CBS Studios and Paramount, both involved in development, are still optimistic about the show’s potential and could shop it to other buyers.
Plot details for the sequel series had been kept largely under wraps, but it was expected to revisit Cher’s life years after the events of the original film, continuing the story for a new generation.
The decision reflects ongoing challenges in rebooting or reviving classic IP, even as studios continue to mine nostalgia-driven projects for streaming platforms.
