‘Clueless’ sequel series with Alicia Silverstone dropped at Peacock
The planned Clueless sequel series starring Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz is no longer moving forward at Peacock, according to sources familiar with the project, as reported by Variety.
The series, first announced in April 2025, was set to continue the story of Cher years after the events of the 1995 cult comedy film Clueless. Despite early development at the NBCUniversal streaming platform, the project has now been dropped and will be shopped to other buyers.
Sources say CBS Studios and Paramount remain supportive of the IP and are optimistic about finding a new home for the series, given the enduring popularity of the original film and its dedicated fanbase. The project is expected to attract interest across the television marketplace once it is formally taken out to other platforms.
Exact plot details were previously kept under wraps, though the series was expected to revisit Cher’s life in adulthood. Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss were attached as writers and executive producers, with Alicia Silverstone also set to executive produce and reprise her iconic role. Clueless writer-director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence were also on board as executive producers.
Universal Television was initially attached alongside CBS Studios but is no longer involved following the change in development plans.
The original Clueless, loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, became a defining 1990s teen comedy and starred Silverstone alongside Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy and Donald Faison. It later inspired a TV adaptation that aired from 1996 to 1999.
Peacock continues to develop a slate of scripted originals, though the Clueless sequel marks another high-profile project to exit development at the streamer.
