PESHAWAR:
American Consul General in Peshawar Candace Putnam said on Tuesday that the United States wants Pakistan to take action against extremists in North Waziristan, but the decision on when and how to do it must be taken by Pakistan itself.
While addressing a news conference at the end of her term, Putnam said Washington will make sure that aid meant for the tribal areas will be used transparently.
Putnam praised Pakistan's security forces for their sacrifices in the war against terror and also said US President Barack Obama has a clear policy for Afghanistan and the US forces will stay there till Al Qaeda is eliminated.
