Dozens injured in Chakwal road crash
At least 30 passengers suffered multiple injuries after where a bus carrying pilgrims overturned, reportedly suffering brake failure, on a downhill stretch at Darbar Mor near Kallar Kahar on the ChakwalSargodha Road on Sunday.
According to initial reports, the bus lost control due to excessive speed while descending the hilly terrain and subsequently overturned.
According to rescue officials, the ill-fated bus (registration LES-4174) belonged to the Sheikh Burhan company and was carrying 45 pilgrims. The passengers had travelled from Sambrial Tehsil in Sialkot district to the shrine at Kallar Kahar and were returning when the incident occurred.
Preliminary reports suggested that the driver lost control after the vehicle's brakes failed, causing the bus to veer off the road and overturn. Among the injured were 11 women and 4 children, with several reported to be in critical condition.
Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene promptly and initiated relief operations. After administering first aid on site, all injured passengers were shifted to the Trauma Centre in Kallar Kahar, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Police cordoned off the site and worked to restore the flow of traffic. On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, an inquiry into the incident has been launched.
Chakwal DC Sarah Hayat took immediate notice of the incident and issued instructions for emergency response measures. The Assistant Commissioner of Kallar Kahar was directed to remain at the site and oversee the rescue operation.
