Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey received another major boost this week, this time from NBA superstar LeBron James, who shared a new promotional spot for the upcoming film as excitement builds around the start of the NBA playoffs.

James posted the teaser on social media alongside the caption: “It was never a myth. It’s a LEGACY! A film by Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey is in theaters 7-17-26.” The crossover moment instantly gave Universal Pictures another high-profile marketing push for one of the most anticipated films of 2026.

The timing is notable, arriving just as postseason basketball draws massive attention worldwide. With playoff storylines dominating headlines, having one of the sport’s biggest stars spotlight the film offers a valuable mainstream audience boost.

The latest promotion follows strong reactions to new footage shown earlier this month at CinemaCon, where theater owners got an early look at Nolan’s next large-scale epic. Reports from attendees described scenes involving the Trojan Horse and praised the movie’s massive cinematic scale.

Universal has set The Odyssey for an exclusive theatrical release on July 17, 2026. The studio has also confirmed the film was shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, continuing Nolan’s long-running commitment to premium large-format filmmaking.

Matt Damon leads the ensemble cast as Odysseus, with Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and Benny Safdie also starring.

With CinemaCon buzz already building and LeBron James now helping amplify awareness during one of sports’ biggest weekends, The Odyssey continues to position itself as one of next summer’s biggest movie events.
