KARACHI:

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Friday warned that the ongoing conflict in Iran was sending economic shockwaves across the globe, lamenting that Pakistan's public already feeling the strain through rising inflation.

In a video message to the nation, issued by the Bilawal House media cell, the PPP chairman said the war's ripple effects had translated into mounting financial pressure on ordinary citizens, even as federal and provincial authorities moved to soften the blow through targeted support. He said that when the Iran war began, the federal government stepped in with a 50 per cent subsidy, while also urging provinces to extend additional relief to their populations.

Responding to this call, provincial governments provided subsidies to transporters to stabilise fares and limit the pass-through of rising fuel costs.

Highlighting Sindh's response, Bilawal said the provincial government had extended financial assistance to 330,000 small farmers owning up to 25 acres of land through the Benazir Hari Card. He added that a 'People's Fuel Subsidy' had been announced for 140,000 motorcyclists in the province, while free home solar kits were being distributed to households living below the poverty line.

He stressed that the Sindh government was making "every possible effort" to provide maximum relief to citizens amid the prevailing economic hardship.

He said Pakistan's leadership is working not only to sustain a ceasefire but to push for a complete end to the conflict.
