A major leak of Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender has triggered a piracy debate after the full film appeared online months ahead of its scheduled premiere on Paramount+ (reported by The Hollywood Reporter).

The incident first gained attention after an anonymous X account, “ImStillDissin,” shared short clips of the film before a complete copy later spread across multiple online platforms. The account claimed the footage originated from a hacker contact, though early reports suggest the situation is more complicated and not the result of a straightforward studio email leak or internal system breach.

The user behind the posts said he initially believed the material was insignificant since the film was not planned for a theatrical release. However, the clips quickly went viral and were reposted across piracy-heavy forums such as 4Chan, where leaked films and shows are frequently shared and distributed.

Paramount has since opened an investigation into the leak and is actively issuing copyright takedown notices to remove copies circulating online (via The Hollywood Reporter). While preliminary findings indicate no direct vulnerability in Paramount’s internal security systems, the true source of the leak has yet to be confirmed.

The situation has also reignited discussion around Paramount’s decision to release the film exclusively on streaming instead of in cinemas. Some online users argued the strategy reduced the film’s perceived value, while others pushed back, stressing that piracy directly harms the animators and production teams who spent years creating the project.

Several animation professionals tied to the film have also criticized the leak, calling it “disrespectful” to the artists and crews involved.

Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is still slated for release on Paramount+ in October.
