Adam Aron, the head of AMC Theatres, has voiced support for Paramount Global’s potential acquisition of Warner Bros., pushing back against growing concerns within Hollywood about consolidation in the entertainment industry.
Speaking amid industry backlash at CinemaCon, Aron said he believes the deal could benefit theatrical releases rather than harm them. While critics, including major actors, warn the merger could reduce opportunities and increase costs, Aron emphasized that more films being produced is ultimately positive for cinemas. He praised David Ellison for expanding Paramount’s film output and supporting large-scale theatrical releases.
Aron also expressed optimism about the future of the box office, noting that 2026 is shaping up to be a strong recovery year following pandemic-related disruptions and industry strikes. He highlighted an increase in film production from major studios, alongside improved theatrical windows, as key factors driving growth.
The AMC chief further revealed a strengthening relationship with Netflix, marking a shift after years of tension between theaters and streaming services. Recent collaborations, including special theatrical screenings of Netflix content, signal a new hybrid approach to distribution that could continue in the coming years.
Additionally, Aron hinted at ongoing ties with global pop star Taylor Swift following the success of her concert film releases. While no new projects have been confirmed, he suggested future collaborations remain a strong possibility.
As Hollywood navigates consolidation and evolving viewing habits, Aron remains confident that theatrical experiences will continue to thrive alongside streaming innovations.
