Karachi Kings sign Jason Roy
Karachi Kings have signed former England opener Jason Roy as a replacement for Muhammad Waseem in PSL 2026. The franchise confirmed the change after Waseem and Khuzaima bin Tanveer were called up by the UAE national side for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 fixtures in Nepal, leaving gaps in the Kings’ top-order lineup.
“Known for his fearless striking and vast experience in the T20 circuit, Roy is no stranger to the PSL, where he has consistently been one of the most destructive overseas batters. His arrival is set to bolster the Kings’ top order as the tournament enters its most critical phase,” the franchise said in an official statement, expressing confidence in his impact.
Roy has featured in six PSL editions since the inaugural season in 2016, representing Lahore Qalandars in 2016 and Quetta Gladiators between 2017 and 2024. He currently holds the record for the highest individual score in PSL history—145 not out off 63 balls against Peshawar Zalmi in Rawalpindi in 2023. Overall, he has scored 1,260 runs in the league at a strike rate of 146.51, including two centuries and eight half-centuries.
Karachi Kings have lost their last two matches after beginning the season with three consecutive wins. The team is yet to register a victory since the tournament shifted to Karachi, raising concerns over their consistency. Their opening pair has particularly struggled to provide strong starts, and the management will be hoping Roy’s arrival brings stability and aggression at the top.
Muhammad Waseem managed only 86 runs in five matches. His opening partner in four games, David Warner, has scored 93 runs in four innings, with more than half of them coming in a single knock. Reeza Hendricks, who opened alongside Waseem in their match against Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 11, scored just two runs off four deliveries.
Kings currently sit fourth on the points table and are set to face Islamabad United in their next fixture on April 16.
