No let-up in road mishaps involving heavy vehicles

A water tanker has crushed one more young motorcyclist, while his friend sustained injuries in a road mishap on Wednesday.
The incident occurred near Chawal Godown, Quaidabad, when a water tanker hit a motorcycle carrying two youth. Tanker driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have taken the water tanker into custody and shifted it to the police station, said SHO Quaidabad.
The deceased was identified as 17-year-old Andan Raja, while the injured 20-year-old Adnan is receiving medical treatment at Jinnah Hospital. Both victims are said to be residents of Sherpao Colony, Quaidabad. Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and collecting statements from eyewitnesses.
Meanwhile, alarming traffic statistics reveal a growing crisis on Karachi's roads. According to data shared by Chhipa Foundation spokesperson Chaudhry Shahid, a total of 295 people have died in road accidents across the city between January 1 and April 15, 2026, while 3,205 people have been injured.
The data shows that among the deceased were 217 men, 39 women, 30 children, and nine girls. During the same period, heavy vehicles were involved in 100 fatal accidents, with trailers being responsible for the highest number with 46 incidents.
