'The Legend of Zelda' movie wraps filming ahead of 2027 release

'The Legend of Zelda' movie has completed filming and remains on track for its May 7, 2027 theatrical release

The Legend of Zelda movie has officially wrapped filming, with production confirmed to have finished ahead of its scheduled cinema release on May 7, 2027.

The update was announced at CinemaCon, confirming that the adaptation remains on schedule following its principal photography phase, which began in New Zealand in November of the previous year.

The project is being developed as a live-action adaptation of Nintendo’s long-running franchise The Legend of Zelda, with filming taking place primarily on location.

Despite high public interest in the production, set leaks have been minimal, with only a small number of unauthorised images circulating online.

These reportedly offered brief glimpses of Link, Zelda, and a possible appearance by Impa, though no additional cast confirmations have been made beyond speculation.

At present, the confirmed leads include Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Other casting details remain unannounced, and it is not yet known how closely the film will align with specific game entries.

Early indications suggest visual and thematic inspiration may draw from The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom, although this has not been officially confirmed.

With filming now complete, attention has shifted to post-production and the possibility of a trailer release later this year. Industry observers note that the adaptation follows the commercial success of recent video game films, including The Super Mario Bros. Movie, increasing anticipation around Nintendo’s expanding presence in cinema.

One ongoing point of discussion among fans is whether Link will be given spoken dialogue, a creative decision that has not yet been addressed by the production team.

The Legend of Zelda movie is currently scheduled for theatrical release on May 7, 2027.
