Marvel hit by layoffs as Disney cuts continue across company

Marvel has reportedly been affected by Disney’s latest round of companywide layoffs, with staff reductions impacting both Marvel Entertainment in New York and Marvel Studios in Burbank.
Around 8% of Marvel’s workforce is said to have been let go, with cuts reaching multiple departments including film and television production, comics, franchise operations, finance, legal, and visual development.
One of the most significant reductions reportedly came within visual development, where Marvel Studios is expected to keep only a smaller internal team while relying more heavily on freelance artists and outside contractors on a project-by-project basis.
The layoffs come as Disney confirmed plans to cut up to 1,000 employees across the broader company, with marketing and brand divisions among the hardest hit.
Marvel previously experienced a smaller round of layoffs in 2024, but this latest move signals a deeper restructuring effort as Disney continues cost-cutting measures across its entertainment empire.
