Tom Cruise stunned audiences at CinemaCon with the first look at his upcoming film Digger, debuting a dramatic transformation into an eccentric, larger-than-life billionaire.
According to Variety, the newly revealed trailer shows Cruise nearly unrecognizable as Digger Rockwell, a wealthy and unstable oil tycoon. The character is portrayed with a noticeably heavier appearance, including a “big belly,” comb-over hairstyle and exaggerated personality, marking a stark departure from Cruise’s usual action-hero roles.
The film is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, known for acclaimed projects like Birdman and The Revenant, and represents a shift into dark comedy territory for both the director and Cruise.
Early footage screened at CinemaCon highlights the film’s satirical tone, with Cruise’s character at the center of a global crisis triggered by his own actions. The story follows the billionaire as he attempts to position himself as humanity’s savior after unleashing a catastrophic disaster.
The movie features a star-studded ensemble cast including Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed and John Goodman, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.
Described as a “wild” and unconventional comedy, Digger marks one of Cruise’s boldest career pivots in years, showcasing him in a role that leans heavily into satire and character transformation rather than high-octane action.
The film is currently slated for a theatrical release in October 2026, positioning it as one of the most talked-about upcoming releases following its buzzworthy CinemaCon debut.
